Our Keynote Speaker, Dr Mathew Mathews, Senior Research Fellow from the Institute of Policy Studies will be updating his research done on the state of counselling in Singapore which was first published in 2010 and its future direction!

In addition, the conference will discuss:

1. The growing need in Singapore for counsellors to network with various practitioners from

a. medical settings (Psychotherapists, Psychiatrists, Medical Professionals);
b. community settings (Agencies, VWOs) and
c. population specific services that reach out to children, to those with special and diverse needs, elderly services and more.
d. enforcement agencies for domain/skill-specific cases e.g. family violence, aggressive and uncontrollable clients, suicidal clients, etc.

2. Acknowledge the growing sophistication and the complexity of case conceptualization and individual assessments; as well as the multicultural competencies required in the management, treatment and intervention processes required for the 21st century.

3. To make sense of experiences in the counsellors’ continuing education, to influence the curriculum on the skills and capabilities of entrants into counselling, to meet the growing needs and complexities within the community in Singapore.
